A Beginner’s Guide to Ranking Up in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

Mobile

You are one star from Legend rank, your jungler just locked in a tank the patch quietly gutted, and someone is already typing in all caps. This is the moment most players decide the ladder is rigged. It is not. Ranked in MLBB runs on rules, and most of the stars you lose disappear for reasons unrelated to your thumbs.

How the Mobile Legends Ranking System Works, Tier by Tier

There are seven ranks in Mobile Legends: Warrior, Elite, Master, Grandmaster, Epic, Legend, and Mythic. Every tier below Mythic splits into divisions counted down in Roman numerals, so you open at Warrior III and climb toward Warrior I. Win, take a star. Lose, lose a star. Fill the division, move up. Ranked mode itself unlocks at account level 8, once you own six heroes and keep your credit score at 90 or above.

Mythic scraps divisions and runs on a raw star count: Mythical Honor at 25 stars, Mythical Glory at 50 stars, and Mythical Immortal, the highest rank in the game, at 100 stars.

Rank Divisions What changes when you get there
Warrior III to I The lowest rank, and the only tier where you cannot lose stars
Elite III to I Star loss begins
Master IV to I Roles and heroes start to matter
Grandmaster V to I Last stop before the draft
Epic V to I Draft pick arrives, three bans per team
Legend V to I Four bans, and demotion starts to sting
Mythic None, stars only Five bans. Honor at 25, Glory at 50, Immortal at 100

Warrior to Grandmaster

Nobody frames a Grandmaster medal. These tiers exist so you can be bad cheaply, so use them properly: master two or three heroes instead of collecting twenty. One jungler, one roamer, and one flex pick for EXP lane or mid is a complete pool for new players.

Choose forgiving heroes while you learn. Floryn heals her team from anywhere on the map and sits near the top of the current MLBB tier list, while a freshly buffed Esmeralda survives the bad trades that would delete a squishier laner. Marcel, Gloo, and Estes, meanwhile, are the heroes you will watch get banned in every game once you climb.

Epic to Legend

Epic is the wall, and it is where the draft pick switches on. Each team bans three heroes at Epic, four at Legend, and five at Mythic, so the game now starts before the game starts. Three habits in the draft phase will win you more stars than any combo guide:

  • Never first-pick a hero that gets countered into the floor. Hold your one trick and let the enemy commit first.
  • Read the team, not your ego. Four damage picks and no frontline is a loss you can see coming from the lobby.
  • Draft the current patch. Patch 2.1.90 trimmed the jungling speed and damage of tank junglers Baxia, Fredrinn, and Akai while lifting Esmeralda, Nolan, Aulus, Minsitthar, and Argus. Meta heroes rotate every few weeks, and plenty of players lose stars to opponents who did nothing clever except read the patch notes.

Star Protection Points and the Rank Protection Card

Star protection points fill a meter as you lose. At 100 percent, your next defeat costs you nothing. A star protection card does the same job on a seven-day timer and takes priority over your points when both are ready.

The rank protection card is the one everybody gets confused about. It does not save a star. It blocks demotion, so the defeat that should knock you out of Legend V and back into Epic simply does not land. Hoard both for the moment they matter: zero stars in a division, one bad game and you’re a week of climbing away from losing.

Turrets Are the Win Condition

Here is the sentence that has pulled more players out of Epic V than any hero guide: the win condition in a MOBA is the enemy base. Kills are currency, not points. A 15-4 scoreline with no turrets down is a game you are quietly losing.

So when you win a teamfight, do not go hunting. Group, take the turret, take the Turtle, and when Lord spawns at eight minutes, take him and walk those buffed minions down mid. Objectives compound. Kills expire in thirty seconds. Watch any esports team, and you will see them hand over a kill for a tower without blinking.

How to Rank Up Fast in Mobile Legends in Solo Queue

Mobile Legends lets you queue solo, duo, trio or as a full five, but never as a four, so one dependable duo partner who plays roam is the cheapest win rate boost available to you.

Beyond that, play roles that do not need permission. A jungler decides where the game happens, a roamer decides who wins the fight when it arrives, and a mage waiting for a stranger to peel for him is a passenger. Mute early, because the teammate typing in capitals has already lost the plot, and arguing back is how your credit score sinks. Then stop after two losses in a row. The third game is where accounts go to die.

Rank Reset

Season 41 ends on September 16, and the following rank reset is the most misread event in Mobile Legends ranked. Everyone above Warrior drops. Mythic players wake up in Epic, and even Mythical Glory and Mythical Immortal players restart around Legend V. Rewards pay out on your highest rank, so the last week of a season is always worth grinding.

The first fortnight of a new season is then the softest ladder you will ever queue into. Former Mythic players sit jammed together in Epic; matchmaking has not sorted anyone yet, and a five-game win streak carries further than it ever will in month three. If you intend to reach Mythic rank once in your life, that is the window.

Not everyone re-climbs from scratch, of course. Some players skip the reset grind and start the season on an established account from a third-party marketplace, where they can browse listings and find their dream account.

What to Do in Your Next Ten Ranked Games

Lock two heroes and refuse to be good at anything else this month. Ban the hero that frightens you, not the one you dislike. Take the turret instead of the kill, every time. And when the loss streak starts, close the app, because the ladder will still be there tomorrow and your stars will not.

Season 42 wipes the board for everyone, regardless. The only question worth asking is where you plan to be standing when it does.
